Chinese teen arrested with 170 duplicate keys in Chiba bathhouse theft plot

CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested an 18-year-old Chinese national accused of attempting to steal valuables from lockers at a public bathhouse using a massive stash of copied keys, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 8).

In September, the teen allegedly posed as a customer to enter a public bath facility in Chiba Prefecture. Once inside the men’s changing room, he used a duplicate key to open a locked locker, rummaging through it in an attempt to steal cash and belongings, according to police.

Investigators revealed that the suspect brought a large quantity of copied keys into the facility, waiting for patrons to step away or take their eyes off their lockers before making his move.

Upon his arrest, officers confiscated a staggering 170 duplicate keys.

During police questioning, the suspect denied the allegations, simply stating, “That is incorrect.”

Given the sheer volume of keys seized, police suspect the teen is involved in numerous other similar crimes and are continuing their investigation into additional charges.
