Chiba woman accused of strangling elderly mother blew ¥33 million tipping live streamers

CHIBA (TR) – A 54-year-old woman recently arrested for the murder of her elderly mother reportedly squandered roughly 33 million yen of the victim’s money on online video streamers, investigative sources revealed, reports TV Asahi (Aug. 18).

Hideko Ishigami, a resident of Mobara City, is accused of strangling her 89-year-old mother, Shizuko, at the victim’s residence in Isumi City in August two years ago.

During police questioning, Ishigami has continued to deny the murder allegations.

According to police, Ishigami made massive cash withdrawals from her mother’s bank account leading up to the murder. She reportedly spent approximately 33 million yen on nagesen — a system of online tipping or sending monetary gifts to live streamers and video content creators.

By the time the murder took place, the mother’s bank account had been virtually drained. Investigators learned that Ishigami had also burned through her own inheritance money and the cancellation payout from her life insurance policy to fuel her online spending habit.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, police referred Ishigami to prosecutors on additional charges for allegedly shoplifting from a supermarket in Mobara City prior to the murder.
