Chiba traffic cop accused of drunk driving

CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police early Saturday arrested a fellow officer from a traffic division on suspicion of drunk driving on a street in Abiko City, reports Nippon News Network (Apr. 25).

The arrested officer is Shun Sasaki, a 28-year-old member of the traffic division of the Matsudo Police Station.

According to the police, Sasaki’s motorcycle collided with a parked car on a street in Abiko at around 1:30 a.m. A breathalyzer test conducted at the scene detected an alcohol level exceeding the legal limit.

Sasaki partially denied the charges during questioning. He said, “I didn’t feel very drunk, and I thought I could go straight home, so I drove my motorcycle.”

Sasaki works in the traffic investigation section of the traffic division and normally handles investigations into drunk driving and unlicensed driving.

Fumitoshi Fukuoka, the Matsudo Police Chief, commented, “It is extremely regrettable that an officer was arrested. We will thoroughly reinforce guidance and training for our officers.”
