CHIBA (TR) – A 29-year-old police sergeant is fighting for his life after allegedly shooting himself in the head inside a restroom at a police station in Ichikawa City, police said, reports TV Asahi (July 9).
At around 9:00 a.m. on the 9th, the officer was found collapsed and bleeding heavily from the head in the men’s restroom of the Ichikawa Police Station. He was rushed to a local hospital in an unconscious state, where he continues to undergo emergency treatment.
According to the Chiba Prefectural Police, a service handgun was found on the floor next to the sergeant. A colleague who was in the vicinity reported hearing a sudden popping sound just before the grim discovery was made.
Investigators are treating the incident as an attempted suicide and are currently looking into the circumstances and potential motives leading up to the shooting.
