NIIGATA (TR) – Security camera footage provided by Nippon News Network (Dec. 18) shows customers at an unmanned bakery in Niigata City stealing at the self-checkout register.
In the footage, a man enters Gozzo de sweets and picks up some items from a case. He then puts them one by one into his bag.
At the self-checkout register, he moves his hands in front of the machine, presumably pretending to pay. He then leaves the store, shoplifting approximately 6,000 yen.
This store has also had at least one other shoplifter.
A woman, also caught on camera, is believed she has visited the store at least nine times and shoplifted items with a total of approximately 9,000 yen.
Katsuyuki Nagai the owner of Gozzo de sweets, said, “I was extremely disappointed. The most important thing is to reduce similar crimes in the area, even if only a little.”
The owner filed reports with police. During the investigation, they identified the woman seen on the security camera on Wednesday evening. During police questioning, she admitted to shoplifting.
The police have also identified the man who shoplifted. They plan to refer both of them to prosecutors on suspicion of theft.
