TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Thursday arrested a 24-year-old university student for assaulting and emasculating a lawyer in Minato Ward, reports TBS News (Aug. 13).

At approximately 7:40 a.m., Ikki Kotsugai, a graduate student at a university in Nakano Ward, began repeatedly punching a 42-year-old attorney in the face inside the offices of a law firm in the Toranomon area. With the lawyer nearly unconscious, the suspect then unzipped the victim’s pants and used a pair of pruning shears to remove his genitals.

Kotsugai, who has been charged with inflicting bodily harm, admits to the allegations. “I cut off his genitals and flushed them down a toilet in the law office,” the suspect is quoted by police.

The victim’s injuries are not considered life threatening.

According to public broadcaster NHK (Aug. 13), the suspect is a former boxer at the university.

Kotsugai’s wife, who is employed at the same office, was also present. Prior to the attack, the couple and the victim had engaged in a discussion.

Police are now investigating what trouble might have existed between the suspect and victim.
