Tokyo special needs teacher suspected of breaking into housing complex to take voyeur shots

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police this week arrested a male special needs school teacher for breaking into a housing complex in Itabashi Ward with the intention of taking surreptitious photos of girls in a swimming pool, reports TBS News (July 17).

At around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Tomofumi Isobe, 44, a teacher at the Tokyo Metropolitan Sumida Special Needs School, allegedly broke into the landing of the stairs of the housing complex with the intention of taking tosatsu (voyeur) photos of girls in the swimming pool of a public elementary school.

Isobe had several photos of girls in swimsuits saved on his digital camera. During questioning on suspicion of trespassing, he admitted to the charges.

According to a person involved in the investigation, the vice principal of the elementary school called police on the day of the incident. He said, “There is a man taking surreptitious photos at the pool.” Police officers who rushed to the scene took Isobe into custody.

Last month, the same elementary school received a report that a suspicious person was pointing a smartphone at the pool from the housing complex. Police are currently investigating whether the two incidents are related.
