TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Monday announced the first arrests in Japan for violations of the anti-revenge porn law on the social-networking service Line, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 22).
On April 16 and 17, Takuma Takakubo, a 26-year-old from Kanazawa City, and Kazuki Uchikawa, a 27-year-old from Kawasaki City, posted two pictures showing the naked upper body of a woman in her 20s to various Line chat groups.
The law, which was enacted in November of last year, prohibits the distribution of sexually explicit material for retaliatory purposes. Both suspects have admitted to the allegations.
Takakubo met the woman in December of last year and took the images during their first encounter. After the two had a quarrel, Takakubo then posted the images on Line. Uchikawa then posted them again to three groups, making it available to approximately 60 people.
