TOKYO (TR) – A male teenager allegedly stole over 80 boxes of razor blades to sell so he could buy idol pop star goods, police said on Thursday.

The 17-year-old suspect who lives in Shinjuku Ward is suspected of stealing 34 boxes of razor blade refills worth some 100,000 yen at four stores in Shinjuku and Nakano wards in January, reports TV Asahi (Mar. 30).

The suspect has admitted to the charges, telling police he “needed money so I could buy goods at idol group events. A friend bought 10 boxes for 10,000 yen.”

Police recovered over 80 boxes of blade refills from the suspect’s home, and are investigating whether additional charges could be brought against him.
