TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested an a 23-year-old man suspected in a series of purse-snatching incidents involving women on bicycles in Setagaya Ward, reports TBS News (July 19).

In April, Daiki Kondo, who is unemployed, used a bicycle to come up from behind a 67-year-old woman pedaling on a road in the Sakurashinmachi area and stole her Gucci handbag containing approximately 60,000 yen from the front basket.

Kondo admits to the allegations. “I did it for living expenses and to play pachinko,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Kondo became a person of interest after an examination of security camera footage taken in the area.

In committing the crime, Kondo wore a mask and hat. Police suspect that Kondo was involved in 10 other incidents in March and April in which a perpetrator with a similar appearance robbed women pedaling bicycles.
