Tokyo cops bust Azabu club for dancing

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Sunday raided a popular nightclub in the Azabu Juban area of Minato Ward for improper licensing, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Feb. 24).

At approximately 2:30 a.m., officers entered club Village and arrested proprietor Susumu Naganuma, 34, manager Taro Fujita, 35, and one other employee for allegedly utilizing a DJ booth to facilitate dancing and serving alcohol without a license in accordance with the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses.

“I do not acknowledge that dancing was taking place,” Naganuma is quoted by police in denying the allegations, according to Fuji News Network (Feb. 24).

At the time of the raid, about 400 customers were inside the club, with 100 of them dancing.

According to police, a number of residents in the surrounding area of the club had registered complaints regarding excessive noise.

The club has generated one billion yen in revenue over the past year, police said.
