TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 29-year-old man after a more than three-hour standoff in which he wielded a crossbow, reports Fuji News Network (Sept. 12).
At around 3:00 p.m., police were met by Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi, who was carrying a crossbow, at the front door of his residence in Tachikawa City. He then barricaded himself inside with the crossbow loaded with an arrow.
At 6:45 p.m. that same day, police broke a window of the residence and entered. Yamaguchi, who had a knife in one hand, was then apprehended on charges of interfering with the execution of the duties of a public servant. There were no injuries in the incident.
Yamaguchi admits to the allegations. “In order to keep the police from entering, I pointed a crossbow at them,” the suspect is quoted.
According to NHK (Sept. 12), the suspect indicated that he had been “troubled about not being able to find a job.”
