TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police suspect that two 13-year-old girls intentionally took their lives by jumping in front of an oncoming train at a station in Shinagawa Ward, reports Fuji News Network (May 10).
At 7:20 p.m. on Monday, the girls, both second-year junior high students, jumped onto the tracks of the Tokyu Oimachi Line and in the path of an express train at Ebara-machi Station.
Both girls were rushed to a nearby hospital but they were confirmed dead soon after arrival. There were no injuries to passengers or crew on the train.
Police are treating the case as a double suicide. A handwritten note, whose contents have not been revealed, was found at the station.
According to officers from the Ebara Police Station, the girls were arm-in-arm and carrying their school bags as they jumped onto the tracks, reports Sports Nippon (May 9).
The incident caused a delay of about two hours, impacting 53 trains and impacting roughly 16,000 passengers.
