TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are investigating what is believed to have been a murder-suicide following the discovery of two bodies, likely belonging to a man and his wife, inside a residence in Katsushika Ward, reports TBS News (Apr. 27).

At around 8:00 p.m., a younger brother of the man living in the residence, located in the Shin-Koiwa area, alerted police about suspicious circumstances. Officers arriving at the scene found a woman collapsed atop a mattress and a man hanged from his neck by a cord.

Both persons were later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital.

According to police, the woman had marks around her neck consistent with strangulation. Police suspect that the man strangled the woman and took his own life.

Police are now seeking to confirm the identify of the two persons.
