SAITAMA (TR) – A 3-year-old boy has died after accidentally falling from the eighth floor of his apartment in Kawaguchi City, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Mar. 25).

The boy’s death was confirmed at a hospital after his 54-year-old grandfather found him at around 7:15 a.m. on Saturday on a net to catch falling objects near the second floor, Saitama Prefectural Police said.

The boy likely fell from his apartment’s balcony after opening a locked window and using a chair or table to peer over a 120-centimeter-tall railing, police said.

There were hand prints on the railing likely belonging to the boy, Fuji News Network quoted police as saying (Mar. 25).

Living with his grandfather, 26-year-old father, and 31-year-old mother, the boy was left alone while his parents were out and his grandfather went to the first floor to give something to his mother.
