KAGAWA (TR) – Kagawa Prefectural Police have revealed that a body found in an abandoned building in Sanuki City earlier this week is that of a 19-year-old man from Nara Prefecture, reports TBS News (June 12).
At around 1:50 a.m. on Thursday, four men and women entering the ruins of the building at the top of Mount Nisshoyama found the body lying face-down.
Emergency personnel rushed to the scene and confirmed the man dead outside the three-story building. He was bleeding from a head injury.
According to the police, a handbag containing the man’s identification documents and mobile telephone phone was left inside the building. Through these belongings, police determined that he was a part-time worker living in Katsuragi City, Nara Prefecture.
Police later learned that the man had come to Takamatsu City’s driving school to take part in a driving license training camp.
Test their courage
The ruins are called “Kappa Dojo.” It is a famous “haunted spot” in the area. The only structures near the top of the mountain are the abandoned building, which is covered in graffiti, and a radio relay station.
Inside the building, pipes are broken and a pillar is completely charred blacked, suggesting there had been a fire in the past.
According to Fuji News Network (June 13), a constant stream of young people trespass into the area to test their courage.
“Young people often play with paint thinner there and other things, and fires and other things have happened,” one local person tells the network. “Fire engines have come several times. It would be better if they demolished the building itself. It’s up to the city to decide what to do about that.”
Police were planning to perform an autopsy on the body at some point after Friday to determine the cause of death.
