Nara cops: Decayed corpse covered by bag found near highway

NARA (TR) – Nara Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a male corpse near a highway in the village of Kawamura, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Nov. 7).

On Saturday at around 11:00 a.m., a member of a work crew tipped off emergency services about the discovery of skeletal remains entangled in vegetation on an embankment near National Route 169 and the Yoshino River.

The body was clothed in a t-shirt and short pants. A black plastic bag was covering the right leg, torso and head.

The results of an autopsy on the body did not reveal a cause of death. The man, aged between 50 and 90, is believed to have died between May and September.

Personal articles were not found at the scene.

Police are using dental records and a DNA analysis to confirm the identity of the body.
