NAGASAKI (TR) – Nagasaki Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of two corpses inside a burned-out vehicle in Unzen City, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (May 12).
At approximately 3:10 a.m. on Thursday, a passerby of a parking lot in the Obamacho Unzen area telephoned emergency services to report that a van was on fire.
Officers from the Unzen Police Station arriving at the scene found two bodies inside the center row of seats of the vehicle, which is a rental car registered in Tokyo. The age and gender of the bodies are unknown.
Police and the Obamacho Fire Department are now working to identify the bodies and determine the cause of the fire.
