At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Ichiro Nakayama, a laborer, brandished a 16-centimeter-long knife to a clerk of the Kyomachi branch of Higo Bank, located in Chuo Ward, and demanded cash.
A woman inside the branch then fled the scene and rushed to a nearby koban (police box). Three officers then apprehended Nakayama.
The suspect, who has been charged with attempted robbery, admits to the allegations. “I wanted money,” the suspect is quoted by officers from the Kita Police Station.
At the time of the incident, there were three or four customers and 10 personnel inside the bank. There were no reported injuries.
