KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of the body of a baby girl floating in a harbor in Miura City, reports NHK (Apr. 25).
At around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a person working in the fishing industry alerted police about the body of a baby floating in Misaki Port.
Police arriving at the scene confirmed unclothed body to be that of a baby girl, floating several meters off a wharf. The girl was confirmed dead at the scene. Police believe she died within the past several days, according to Nippon News Network (Apr. 25).
“I thought it was a doll that was floating, so I am surprised to hear that it was the body of a baby,” a woman in her 50s who works in the area was quoted by NHK.
Another woman, also in her 50s, said it is common for garbage to be found in the area. “But I can’t believe this kind of thing can happen,” she said.
The case is being treated as the result of foul play. Police are now seeking to determine the cause of death of the baby.
