KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a 32-year-old male employee in the construction industry in the killing of a man at a park in the town of Oiso as a part of his plan “to get arrested,” reports the Sankei Shimbun (Mar. 14).

At around 6:00 p.m. on March 13, Yu Goto, a resident of Oiso, repeatedly struck the head and back of Tomoyoshi Yoshikawa, 44, with a metal pipe at the entrance of a toilet at Oiso Joyama Park.

Goto, who has been charged with murder, admits to the allegations “I wanted to kill a person in order to be arrested by the police,” the suspect was quoted by the Oiso Police Station.

After committing the crime, Goto alerted police via a public telephone. “I killed a person,” he said. Yoshikawa was transported to a nearby hospital after police found his collapsed body in front of the toilet. He was confirmed dead shortly thereafter.

According to police, Goto, who was not acquainted with the victim, later turned himself in. He was drunk at the time of his arrest. Police later learned that he had significant debts.

“I found the metal pipe along the beach on Monday,” the suspect reportedly said, referring to the murder weapon, which police retrieved from bushes near the toilet.
