Ibaraki cops: Man wielding knife robs convenience store in Mito

IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police are searching for a man behind the theft of approximately 200,000 yen from a convenience store in Mito City, reports Nippon News Network (April 1).

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Friday, a man wearing a breathing mask entered an outlet of Family Mart, located in the Joto area, and demanded cash while presenting a knife to an employee at the counter.

The perpetrator, who was attired in a black jacket and jeans, then stuffed 200,000 yen in cash from two registers in a bag and fled the scene.

According to police, there were no other customers in the store at the time of the incident.

Police are now seeking the whereabouts of the man, believed to be in his 20s and measuring approximately 175 centimeters in height.

Police have released images taken from surveillance camera footage that show the suspect in hopes that the public can assist in his apprehension.
