HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police on Monday arrested a 23-year-old male for allegedly stalking his much older former girlfriend earlier this year, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 12).

Between March 6 and 8, Shinya Nishizawa, a company employee living in Toyooka City, allegedly sent 36 emails to his ex-girlfriend, 54, to request that she call him.

Nishizawa, who has been charged with violating the Stalker Regulation Law, has reportedly admitted to the allegations. “Since I liked her I couldn’t forget her,” the suspect is quoted by police.

According to police, the suspect and victim had worked together at the same company. After the woman consulted with police in March regarding Nishizawa’s behavior, he received a warning.

However, Nishizawa continued his pursuit of the woman. On the afternoon of April 17, the suspect appeared in front of her residence.

In August of 2013, a revision to the stalker law prohibited the repeated sending of emails.
