HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police are investigating what is believed to be a murder-suicide after the discovery of the bodies of a man and his wife in the town of Niikappu, the Sankei Shimbun (Mar. 2).

At approximately 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday, police found the body of the man hanging by his neck from a tree on the abandoned property of his wife’s parents, located in the Nishihakutsu area.

About 50 minutes later, the body of his wife was found in a storage shed on the same property. The body exhibited injuries consistent with a stabbing.

Police believe that the man killed his wife before taking his own life.

Earlier that day, the couple’s son, a fifth-year elementary school student, contacted the Shizunai Police Station after he was unable to locate his parents. Police then made the grisly discovery on the property.

Police are now working to confirm the identities of the bodies.
