HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police have arrested a 45-year-old man in a series of tire thefts in Kushiro City, reports TV Asahi (Nov. 19).
At around 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, Toshiyuki Soma, who is unemployed, allegedly stole four car tires for summer driving from a storage unit inside an apartment building located in the Tsurugadai area.
Security camera footage showed Soma using a tool to pry open individual lockers in the storage room to remove the tires.
Soma, who has been charged with theft, admits to the allegations. “I did it to turn the tires into cash,” the suspect is quoted by police. “I’ve done this about 20 times.”
