SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of skeletal remains in a river in Misato City, reports the Saitama Shimbun (Oct. 10).

At around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, a member of the Misato Fire Station tipped off police about the skeletal remains floating face-down in the Kamihikona area of the Naka River.

According to the Yoshikawa Police Station, the body is of unknown gender and age. The body’s head, left arm and both legs were missing. The body was clothed in pants and a belt.

Police, who are treating the case as the result of foul play or an accident, are now seeking to identify the body.

The Misato Fire Station was in the area to determine the source of a discharge of oil in the river when the body was found.
