TOKYO (TR) – The Tokyo Metropolitan Police early Sunday morning raided clubs in the Shinjuku 2-chome gay quarter of Tokyo and arrested five employees for licensing violations, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 3).
Officers from the peace preservation division took manager Isao Murakami, 48, and four others into custody for operating a business licensed to serve food and drink while providing entertainment services in violation of the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses.
According to police, all five suspects have admitted to the allegations. “I thought it was tolerable,” Kawamura is quoted by police.
Shinjuku has approximately 450 gay bars. Kawamura is the manager of six establishments, including Miracle Bon Bar (@miraclebombert). The suspect’s bars employ 50 staff members and collect approximately 330 million yen in annual revenue.
Of the six bars operated by the suspect, three were cited for violations.
