CHIBA (TR) – Police at Narita International Airport earlier this month arrested a 25-year-old Chinese national for allegedly smuggling illegal drugs strapped to his torso, reports NHK (Oct. 27).

On October 6, customs officials found three kilograms of kakuseizai, or stimulant drugs, strapped to the torso of the man, 25, after he arrived on a flight from Hong Kong, where he is a resident. The contraband has an estimated value of 200 million yen.

The drugs were contained in 17 plastic bags that had been held around his abdomen by plastic wrap.

The suspect told police that a man with whom he was not acquainted had paid him 600,000 yen to smuggle the drugs. “I knew the drugs were illegal, but I undertook this to repay debts,” the suspect is quoted.
