Body parts found in two locations around Hakata Bay

FUKUOKA(TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police are investigating whether body parts found in two locations around Hakata Bay on Wednesday belong to the same person, reports Nippon News Network (Aug. 7).

Around 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday, a staff member at a nearby facility located near a beach in Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City called police to report the discovery of a leg. “It appears to be a real leg, not a prosthetic,” the caller said.

According to police, the right leg found is believed to belong to an adult. Measuring 67 centimeters from the heel to the ankle.he leg had been severed at the base of the thigh.

No clothing or shoes have been found. The gender is unknown.

The second discovery was reported at around 7:45 p.m. that same day. The Japan Coast Guard reported that “something resembling an arm was drifting” in the ocean 120 meters southwest of Minato Kashii in the same ward.

What was found was the upper half of a human body, including the head, chest and right arm. The body’s gender is unknown, but it is believed to be an adult. It was discovered by workers on a boat docked at a quay.

The body had a piece of cloth resembling underwear around its neck.

The locations of the two discoveries are about 6 kilometers apart.

Police are investigating whether there are any missing persons who fit the descriptions of the body parts.
