TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Sunday arrested an Asahi Shimbun newspaper deliveryman for allegedly threatening to kill a female announcer of Nippon TV (NTV) over her choice of clothing, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Feb. 22).
Police took Akira Kamijo, 36, a part-time employee at a distribution point in Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, into custody for making threats to kill 25-year-old Takako Kato in a comment section of the Web site of NTV between September 25 and October 5 last year.
“Because you cannot hide your dirty legs go on and die,” one of the six messages said, according to TBS News (Feb. 22). The suspect also commented on the announcer’s “sexy clothes,” saying they are inappropriate.
Kato consulted with police after finding the messages at the end of October. Kamijo came under scrutiny after police traced the IP address used to make the postings.
Kato is employed as a freelance announcer on NTV’s “Oha!4 News Live” program. She also appears on the radio.
