Another corpse found floating in Fukuoka City park pond

FUKUOKA (TR) – Police in Fukuoka City have launched an investigation after the lifeless body of an elderly woman was discovered floating in a pond at a local park on Sunday.

The discovery is the second of its kind this month, reports KBC (Apr. 19)

At approximately 11:30 a.m., an employee of the management company for Ohori Park in Chuo Ward placed an emergency call to 110, reporting that “it looks like a person is floating” in the water.

According to investigators, a cleaning worker operating a boat first spotted the person floating face-down about one meter from Satsuki Bridge inside the park and alerted the management.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene and pulled the woman from the pond. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe the victim was in her 70s. She was found wearing pajama-like clothing under a white raincoat. A preliminary examination revealed no obvious external injuries on the body, and she was carrying no personal belongings that could identify her.

Fukuoka Prefectural Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, keeping all possibilities open, including foul play or an accidental fall. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death as authorities hurry to confirm her identity.

This is the second body to be found in the pond this month. On April 10, the body of an elderly man was found floating face-down in the water.
