Man’s corpse found in Fukuoka pond

FUKUOKA (TR) – Police in Fukuoka City have launched an investigation after the lifeless body of an elderly man was discovered floating face-down in a pond at a local park, reports TV Asahi (Apr. 11).

At approximately 7:40 a.m. on Friday, a pedestrian taking a morning stroll through Ohori Park made the discovery and immediately dialed 110 for emergency assistance.

“An elderly man is floating face-down,” the caller reported to authorities.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene and pulled the man from the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, the victim is believed to be a senior citizen. His clothing was not in disarray. A preliminary examination showed no visible signs of trauma or obvious external injuries on the body.

Fukuoka Prefectural Police are currently hurrying to confirm the identity of the deceased. Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, noting that they are keeping all possibilities open — including foul play, an accidental fall or suicide.
