Police from three administrative districts, including Saitama Prefecture, arrested Kenta Inoue, a 31-year-old Inagawa-kai member, and two other suspects for allegedly attempting to defraud a 61-year-old woman in Fujioka City, Gunma Prefecture out of two million yen in cash.
In carrying out the crime, a phone call was placed to the woman in which the caller, who claimed to be her oldest son, requested financial assistance regarding an investment.
All three suspects have refused to comment on the allegations.
On Wednesday, police raided the ring’s headquarters in Tokyo’s Toshima Ward and seized 13 mobile phones, three personal computers and an instruction manual on how to commit frauds. A spreadsheet file on one of the computers included the names and phone numbers of approximately 90,500 potential victims.
