SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested an organized crime member after an assault at a parking lot in Kumagaya City left one man dead, reports TV Asahi (Mar. 14).
Early Monday morning, police received a tip about a skirmish near a restaurant involving multiple persons. Officers arriving at the scene found Hisao Ueki, a 49-year-old resident of Kumagaya, collapsed and bleeding from his head in the parking lot.
Ueki was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead shortly after arrival.
That afternoon, Yuji Tsukada, a 40-year-old member of the Yamaguchi-gumi, and four other gang members turned themselves over to police. Tsukada has been accused of assault for allegedly beating Ueki in the head.
Prior to the incident, Tsukada and Ueki got into a dispute at the restaurant.
Police are now investigating whether to charge the other four gangsters in the case.
