TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Monday made one arrest after a drunken fight between two former gangsters ended with one death, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Nov. 25).

On Sunday evening, Terunobu Asai, 57, began drinking at the one-room residence of Toshihiko Kawasaki, 49, in the Sekimae district of Musashino City. At around 4:00 a.m., Kawasaki struck Asai in the head.

An acquaintance of Asai later discovered the victim and telephoned emergency personnel. Officers arrived at the scene to find Asai bleeding from his head and Kawasaki covered in blood.

Asai, who had been living in the apartment rent-free since being released from prison in October, was confirmed dead at a local hospital. The pair were once members of the same gang.

Kawasaki has been charged with attempted murder. Officers are now working to place murder charges on the suspect.

According to Fuji News Network (Nov. 25), Kawasaki denies the allegations.
