SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested a male Turkish national over over the alleged rape of a woman in Kawaguchi City last month, reports TBS News (Feb. 17).
At around 10:30 pm on January 27, Emrah Ozucargil, of no known occupation, allegedly grabbed the arm of the woman, aged in her 40s, dragged her to a park in the city and sexually assaulted her for several minutes.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of non-consensual sexual intercourseon Wednesday, Ozucargil, who lives in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward, denied the allegations. “It is not true,” the suspect was quoted by the Kawaguchi Police Station.
Police declined to reveal whether Ozucargil is from the Kurdish ethnic group.
Prior to the incident, Ozucargil called out to the woman as she walked by. “What are you doing?” he asked. When she ignored him, he grabbed her arm and carried out the alleged crime.
Afterward, a relative of the woman reported the incident to police. Ozucargil surfaced as a person of interest in the case after an examination of security camera footage shot in the area.
