KYOTO (TR) – Kyoto Prefectural Police this week arrested a male Swiss nationality at a railway station in the town of Seikacho after he suddenly pulled out a knife and began to act violently, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (Feb. 11).
Around 6:30 a.m. on February 11, police were alerted with a report of “a foreigner with a knife” on the platform of JR Hosono Station on the JR Gakkentoshi Line.
Officers arriving at the scene arrested the unnamed man, 27, for violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law. There were no injuries in the incident, police said.
Prior to the incident, a station staff member called out to the man after he collapsed on the platform with blood coming from his forehead. He then suddenly pulled out a knife and began to act violently.
The station staff took the knife away from the man and apprehended him.
West Japan Railway, the operator of the line and station, later conducted an inspection on the platform. Two trains were canceled and three were delayed, the railway said.
