OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police on Monday arrested a 28-year-old man after the discovery of a male corpse found scattered on a mountain in Higashiosaka City last month, reports
Police sent Hiroto Oki, a resident of Osaka City’s Chuo Ward, to prosecutors on suspicion of abandoning a corpse on Tuesday morning, reports Kyodo News (Feb. 4).
On January 25, a police officer found the corpse in the mountains near the border with Nara Prefecture. The head, limbs, and legs of the male victim had been separated from the unclothed torso. The parts were found in a rough circle with a 30-meter radius.
Based on the results of an autopsy, the victim is estimated to have died late in December of last year. He was aged in his 40s or early 50s and stood up to 145 centimeters tall. The estimated time of death was late December last year.
No personal items belonging to the victim were found in the area.
Following the discovery of the body parts, police examined security camera footage shot in the area. Footage shot at Nukata Station on the Kintetsu Nara Line showed a suspicious person carrying a suitcase on the night of December 28. In the clip, the person walks from station, the closest to the location of the discovery, into the mountains.
Police are continuing the investigation with a target of adding charges of destruction of a corpse and murder.
