MIYAGI (TR) – Following the discovery of the corpse of a missing woman on a beach in Iwanuma City earlier this month, Miyagi Prefectural Police have announced the arrest of 21-year-old man.

Between 7:40 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. on April 12, Renma Sato, of no known occupation, allegedly dumped the corpse of nursery school teacher Yuka Yukishi on the sand near concrete tetrapods.

On April 26, police accused Renma Sato, of no known occupation, of abandoning a corpse. Police did not reveal whether the suspect admits to the allegations.

Sato lives in Iwanuma. On April 13, a person walking on the beach discovered her body, which had several stab wounds.

Yukishi was a resident of nearby Sendai City. Sato is believed to have been an acquaintance of hers.

Smartphone of victim not yet located

When the police checked Sato’s smartphone, they found a record of a phone call with Yukishi just before 7 p.m. the day before her body was found. Her smartphone has yet to be located, police said.

Yukishi’s family had filed a missing persons report, saying that she had gone out alone and not returned.

Given the stab wounds on Yukishi’s body, police are continuing the investigation on suspicion of murder.
