TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are searching for a man who used a crowbar to rob a luxury goods store in Shibuya Ward on Wednesday.
At around 7:00 p.m., the man showed the crowbar to a female store clerk at the luxury goods store, located in Hiroo. After demanding money, he smashed a display case and stole four items, including a luxury bag, before fleeing the scene.
The bag has a value of 600,000 yen, police said.
There were two employees and one customer inside the store at the time. None of them was injured in the incident, police said.
“It’s frustrating,” the manager of the store told TV Asahi (Apr. 24). “The biggest thing is that it happened in a place like this. I think the area is very safe.”
According to police, the perpetrator is described as being in his 20s or 30s. Standing about 170 centimeters tall, he is of thin build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white knit cap, black clothing and a black backpack.
The incident occurred in an area lined with stores and apartment buildings about 300 meters from Hiroo Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line.
