Kagoshima investigator referred to prosecutors over alleged rape of acquaintance

KAGOSHIMA (TR) – Kagoshima Prefectural Police have sent documents to the prosecutor’s office on a chief investigator on suspicion of raping a female acquaintance last year.

The person referred to the Kagoshima District Public Prosecutors Office is Hiroyuki Abe, the 28-year-old chief the 2nd Investigation Division of the headquarters of the Kagoshima Prefectural Police, reports TBS News (Feb. 15).

According to police, Abe engaged in non-consensual sexual intercourse with the female acquaintance in Kagoshima City last November.

On January 12, the woman reported the matter to the National Police Agency’s sexual harassment consultation desk.

Regarding whether Abe has admitted to the charges, police said, “We cannot disclose this in order to protect the woman’s privacy.”

Police also announced that Abe would be transferred to the Police Affairs Department, saying that he is no longer suitable for his current position.

Abe is a so-called “career police officer” who joined the National Police Agency in 2018 after graduating from Waseda University. He was assigned to the prefectural police in August of last year.
