Ex-lower house member Tamotsu Shiiki accused of raping girl in karaoke parlor

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested Tamotsu Shiiki, a former member of the House of Representatives, over the alleged sexual assault of a girl last month.

According to the Shinjuku Police Station, Shiiki, 58, is alleged to have sexually assaulted the girl, a first-year middle school student, at a karaoke parlor in the Kabukicho red-light district on August 20.

Upon his arrest, Shiiki admitted to going to the parlor, However, he denied committing the act, according to NHK (Sep. 9).

The former member of the House of Representatives, who lives in Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture, and the female student are believed to have met for the first time on the street in Shinjuku Ward on the day of the incident. They later went to the karaoke parlor together.

Shiiki ran for office as a candidate in Chiba’s 13th district for the then Japan Restoration Party in 2012. After his election, he served two terms as a member of the House of Representatives.

Shiiki ran for office two other times in 2017 (Osaka Prefecture) and 2021 (Chiba Prefecture). However, he failed in both attempts.

Tokyo police are investigating the details of the incident.
