Drunk Osaka cop throws bicycle at moving taxi

OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police on Sunday arrested a 28-year-old police officer allegedly throwing a bicycle at a moving taxi in Osaka City.

Yoshihiro Kusakabe, a sergeant at the Toyonaka Police Station Airport Security Substation, has already been released after admitting to the charges. Prefectural police are continuing their investigation on a voluntary basis, reports Asahi Shimbun (Oct. 6).

According to police, Kusakabe is suspected of throwing the bicycle at a moving taxi on a street in Kita Ward at around 3:30 a.m. on October 6.

The cab suffered damage to its front bumper and door mirror, polices said.

The day before, Kusakabe was off duty. Just before the incident, he was on his way home from drinking with an acquaintance.

In admitting to the charges, the suspect, who lives in the same ward, said he “didn’t really remember” why he threw the bike.

The bicycle he threw was not the property of the suspect. Prefectural police are now investigating how he got hold of it.

Hironori Tsugawa, an inspector, commented, “This is completely unacceptable for a police officer. We will take strict action based on the results of the investigation.”
