TOKYO (TTR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of sexually assaulting a teenage girl at an internet cafe in Shinjuku Ward, leaving her with injuries requiring three months of medical treatment, reports Nippon News Network (Oct. 29).
According to police, suspect Natsuki Arai allegedly forced himself upon the girl inside the Kabukicho establishment last month, biting her abdomen and pressing lit cigarettes against her.
Nearby security cameras captured footage of Arai grabbing the girl by the arm and pulling her into the premises, police said.
Upon his arrest, Arai denied the allegations. “There was an understanding of consent,” he said.
The case has drawn public attention to safety conditions in Kabukicho, the neon-lit entertainment district that authorities have long sought to clean up.
