HOKKAIDO (TR) – Police in Otaru City have identified a highly decomposed body found stuffed in a basement storage room as the 52-year-old son of the property’s owner, reports TV Asahi (Oct. 11).
The grim discovery was made on Octobner 7 at a residence in Otaru. The victim, identified as Tetsuya Ishiba, whose occupation remains unknown, was found wrapped in a futon-like material and concealed inside an underground storeroom.
An autopsy failed to determine the exact cause of death due to the advanced state of decay. However, medical examiners estimate Ishiba had been dead for several months.
According to police, Ishiba’s father — the registered head of the household — currently resides in a nursing care facility. Authorities are now trying to locate Ishiba’s sister, whom they have so far been unable to contact.
Police are treating the case as abandoning a corpse and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ishiba’s death.
