JR East employee accused of illicit filming of woman while on duty

SAITAMA (TR) — Police have referred a former employee of a JR East group company to prosecutors for allegedly using a work-issued tablet to secretly film a woman while on duty at a station in Gyoda City, reports Nippon News Network (Oct. 9).

The suspect, a man in his 20s who formerly worked for JR East Station Service, was referred to prosecutors on October 8.

According to investigative sources, the suspect is accused of committing the voyeuristic act in August. While on shift, the man allegedly used his company-supplied tablet to take tosatsu footage of the woman as she traveled on an ascending escalator at JR Gyoda Station.

The illicit filming came to light after an observant witness spotted the act and immediately alerted the police.

Following the police report, JR East conducted an internal investigation. The man admitted to the allegations and was handed a disciplinary dismissal on September 10.

The disgraced employee had only been hired in April of this year. Prior to his termination, he was responsible for operating the ticket gates and guiding passengers around the station.
