Decomposed body found wrapped in futon, locked in Hokkaido basement

HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police have launched an investigation after the heavily decomposed body of a man was discovered locked inside the basement of a residence in Otaru City, reports TV Asahi (Oct. 9).

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to an emergency call from an associate of the home’s resident who stated, “I cannot get in contact with my family.”

Upon searching the property, investigators discovered the male victim inside a basement storage room. The door to the room had been locked.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the man’s age could not be immediately determined. Investigative sources revealed that the corpse had been wrapped in a material resembling a Japanese futon.

Police are currently rushing to identify the victim and are treating the case as the suspected abandonment of a corpse.
