IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police have arrested a 22-year-old man after he intentionally steered his car into oncoming traffic in a bid to end his own life, leaving a stranger severely injured, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 5).
Reon Kamimera, a self-proclaimed transport worker, is accused of deliberately driving into the opposite lane of a prefectural road in Sakuragawa City on September 25, colliding head-on with a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old man.
The victim, who had no prior acquaintance with the suspect, sustained severe injuries in the wreck, including a fractured right leg.
Kamimera suffered full-body contusions in the crash and was hospitalized. Police waited for his recovery and officially took him into custody on the 4th upon his discharge.
During questioning on suspicion of attempted murder, Kamimera partially denied the charge. “I admit to intentionally crashing the car, but I had no intention of hurting anyone,” he told investigators.
When asked about his motive for the collision, he reportedly stated, “I crashed because I wanted to die.”
