Two Nara cops resign over sex inside police facility

NARA (TR) – Two police officers here have resigned after being disciplined for engaging in sexual intercourse inside a police facility, local police have revealed, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Oct. 1).

Nara Prefectural Police issued a formal chief’s warning to a female officer in her 20s and a male officer in his teens on September 11. Both officers promptly handed in their resignations the same day.

According to police, the two single officers had sex inside a police facility outside of their regular working hours on multiple occasions between August and September. The illicit rendezvous came to light after a colleague discovered the behavior and reported them to a superior.

When questioned about the incidents, the pair reportedly told investigators, “We couldn’t control our desires.”

In a separate and unrelated incident, the department also revealed that a male officer in his 20s received a chief’s reprimand on September 8. The officer was caught driving a passenger vehicle at 55 kilometers per hour over the legal speed limit in neighboring Wakayama Prefecture.

Following the string of disciplinary actions, the prefectural police’s inspection division issued a statement, saying, “We will thoroughly enforce guidance and strive to prevent any recurrences.”
