NARA (TR) – Nara Prefectural Police have disciplined two male officers for separately committing acts of sexual harassment against the same female colleague, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Sep. 16).
On August 28, a police superintendent in his 50s was issued a reprimand by the police chief, while a sergeant in his 30s received a warning. Both men were assigned to the prefectural police headquarters at the time of the incidents.
According to the internal inspection division, the superintendent harassed the woman between July of last year and March. His actions included hugging her from the front and using his personal smartphone to send her unsolicited romantic messages outside of working hours.
Meanwhile, between July and August of this year, the sergeant repeatedly held the woman’s hand and touched her legs.
The rampant harassment finally came to light in August when the victim consulted with a superior officer.
“We will thoroughly instruct our personnel and strive to prevent any recurrence,” the inspection division said in a statement.
